Prayer: Our Source of Power and Victory by Lucinda Davidoff

Today in our month at the movies, we just watched a clip from the movie WAR ROOM, and if you haven’t watched it, I do recommend it.

I would like to pose the same question to you that Miss Clara posed Elizabeth in War Room:

 “If I asked you what your prayer life was like, what would you say? That it was hot or cold?”

Why do we pray:

1.     Prayer is communion with God, where we experience His presence and hear His voice

Go into your prayer closet with a pen and paper and write down what God is telling you so you can act on it

2.     Prayer helps us walk out the Christian walk from a place of victory. We pray from a place of victory

Isaiah 40:29-31 [29]He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
[30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
[31] But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

3. Prayer affirms our peace in circumstances that would otherwise cause anxiety

Philippians 4:6 NKJV

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

4. Prayer is a proclamation of our dependence on God and that He is our source for ALL things, and He is our only source

James 5:16 “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Matt 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and then ALL these things shall be added to you.”

How do we pray:

Matthew 6:5-13 [5] And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

 [6] But you, when you pray, go into your room, (we see Miss Clara went into her closet to pray)

and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place (the Father is already in the secret place waiting for you);

and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

[7] And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

[8] “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. [9] In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
[10] Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
[11] Give us this day our daily bread.
[12] And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
[13] And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Jesus was a man of prayer… often slipping away from the crowd, going to a quiet place, at a quiet time, spending time with His Father. So, when Jesus said pray in this manner, He was teaching us what elements to include in our prayers so that we too would find it easy to spend hours with God in prayer.

1.     Start your prayer with blessing the Name of God

Matthew 6:9 Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your Name.
Psalm 34:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

In the WAR ROOM clip, Miss Clara starts her prayer with, “You have done it again, Lord, You have done it again! You are Good, You are Mighty, and You are Merciful! And You keep taking care of me when I don’t deserve it… Praise You Jesus! You are LORD.”

She established Lordship of Jesus over her life.

Miss Clara is passionate as she prays… she believes that her prayers are effective.

2.     Establishing God’s Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven

Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth will be lost in heaven.”

Job 22:38 You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.

Romans 4:17(ASV) says that God “giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were.”

In the movie, we see Miss Clara praying for another soul that she can help!
That God would raise up more that would call upon His name – and as she prays, God starts working on the hearts she is praying for.

She prays for those who would seek God and trust Him – intercession of a matured believer is praying for others.

As she prays, you see people coming to Jesus and becoming mobilized and that Kingdom is established.

When we establish God’s kingdom on earth, as it is in heaven, I imagine what that scenario looks like in heaven, and then I pray likewise.

Lord I pray for our family thank you that you establish your kingdom in our family. That the Davidoff family is effective in your kingdom, working righteousness as it is in heaven, so it is on earth.

Thank you that the Davidoff family is a praying family, as it is in heaven, so it is on earth.

We establish your kingdom in our marriage. We speak unity in our marriage, as it is in heaven, so it is on earth.

We speak healing over our bodies – as it is in heaven, let it manifest on earth.

3.     Give us this day our daily bread

Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

When Jesus was tempted of the devil to break His fast prematurely, Jesus said we shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:4 But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

What does that mean:

-        God is our source of life and sustenance – He is our physical source of strength for our bodies and our provision for everything we need in the physical- he provides for us physically and financially.

-        God is our spiritual source He gives us the Rhema word – the word we need to do what He has called us to do this day… this has to do with revelation knowledge given by the Holy Spirit to make good choices and God choices in our lives.

4.     Forgive us our debts, as we forgive

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Forgiving us allows God to hear our prayers.

5.     Do not lead us into temptation, and deliver us from evil

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Father give us hearts that want to take the way out when You present it…

Father give my sons a heart that love Your ways and that hate the ways of evil.

Keep them pure and unspotted from the world.

6.     For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Attributing praise and glory and power to His name – we end off in praise and worship and adoration

LIVING IN THE SUPERNATURAL by Pastor Jarrod Davidoff

Galatians 5:16-26 [16] I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. [17] For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

[19] Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, [20] idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, [21] envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. [24] And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. [26] Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Living in the Spirit positions us to live a life in the supernatural.

Living in the supernatural means that you have access to God’s supernatural power, help, and favor to overcome challenges and trials in your own life and to help others in theirs.

There are 4 forces trying to influence your life and behavior:

1. People

2. Demonic forces

3. Your own desires, the lusts of the flesh, the pride of life

4. And God’s perfect will

Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up (HOW?) on your most holy faith (SO THEN IT’S FAITH WE ARE AFTER), (HOW?) praying in the Holy Spirit

Prayer is like the fuel in the engine. You have a great car or a monster truck that’s capable of going fast or doing great exploits, yet without gas in the motor, it’s going nowhere.

Psalm 119:11-16 [11] Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.
[12] Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
[13] With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
[14] I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
[15] I will meditate on Your precepts,
And [b]contemplate Your ways.
[16] I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.

When you know who you are in Christ and what God’s promises are, you will receive tremendous boldness and power to do what needs to be done.

Romans 4:17 God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did

In order to live a supernatural life, you are going to need faith. Faith is what will propel you to get out and walk on the water.

I don’t believe any of us here want to have regrets in Heaven. We all want to do what the Lord has assigned us to do. Faith will take us there.

And when I say faith…faith in God to help carry you through.

Hebrews 11:16-40 [16] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

[17] By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, [18] of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” [19] concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.

[20] By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

[21] By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.

[22] By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.

[23] By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.

[24] By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, [25] choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin, [26] esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

[27] By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. [28] By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

[29] By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.

By Faith They Overcame

[30] By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. [31] By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.

[32] And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: [33] who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, [34] quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to fight the armies of the aliens. [35] Women received their dead raised to life again.

Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. [36] Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. [37] They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— [38] of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.

[39] And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, [40] God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

Paul and Silas in Prison

Acts 16:16-34 [16] Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. [17] This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” [18] And this she did for many days.

But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. [19] But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

[20] And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; [21] and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.” [22] Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. [23] And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. [24] Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

The Philippian Jailer Saved

[25] But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. [26] Suddenly there was a great earthquake (God was tapping His toes), so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. [27] And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. [28] But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

[29] Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. [30] And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

[31] So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” [32] Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. [33] And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. [34] Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

The walls are coming down:

Walls of financial lack

Walls of relationship tension

Walls of discrimination

Walls of division

Joshua 6:15-16, 20 [15] But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. [16] And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!

[20] So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Acts 19:11-12 [11] Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, [12] so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

Acts 5:12 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people.

Acts 5:15-16 [15] so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. [16] Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

Acts 5:14, 41-42 [14] And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women

[41] they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. [41] So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. [42] And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

As you step out with the Lord to do what He has called you to do, supernatural favor will come upon you.

Unmasking Satan by Pastor Jarrod Davidoff – June 2, 2019

We all go through tremendous challenges in life. Most people try to solve these challenges or problems with natural solutions but don’t know that there are also spiritual forces coming against them.

In order to understand our spiritual authority, we need to know who our enemy is and his origins.

That’s why today I want to shed some light from the Word on who is initiating these attacks on your life.

As a teenager, I used to be a passionate tennis player and then became a coach. When your student is going to play another competitor, it’s important for you to study the opponent, so you can give your student a strategy for beating that person and intel about their game.

It is important for us to know that we have a spiritual enemy that the Bible teaches us about called satan or the devil.

He is the arch enemy of God and all people. He is the one that instigates sin, war, crime, violence, sickness, disease, depression, oppression and possession.

He is evil to the core and is filled with hatred and violence towards God and us.

So satan’s modus operandum is explained by Jesus in John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

He comes to STEAL your:

He comes to KILL your:

He comes to DESTROY your:

As well as your community’s social and moral fiber

Whatever God loves | satan hates
Whatever God values | satan despises

We see God’s true heart from Scripture when Jesus speaks:

John 3:16-17 [16] For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. [17] For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Yet the opposite is also true: For satan so hates the world that he hates the Son of God and hates everyone who believes in the Son of God. For satan despises God, who sent His Son into the world to save the world and despises that people may be saved through Jesus.

Isaiah 14:12-17

[12] “How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
[13] For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; (PRIDE)
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
[14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
[15] Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, (HELL)
To the lowest depths of the Pit.

[16] “Those who see you will gaze at you,
And consider you, saying:
Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Who shook kingdoms,
[17] Who made the world as a wilderness
And destroyed its cities,
Who did not open the house of his prisoners?’

So to clarify, that was God talking about satan

[12] “You were the seal of perfection, (GOD CREATED HIM FLAWLESS AND BEAUTIFUL)
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
[13] You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes (HIS VOICE WAS PERFECT – ANY OCTIVE)
Was prepared for you on the day you were created.

[14] “You were the anointed (POWERFUL AND SPECIAL) cherub (ANGEL) who covers;
You were on the holy mountain of God; (HOLY AND PURE)
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
[15] You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, (PERFECT IN EVERYTHING HE DID)
Till iniquity was found in you.

[16] “By the abundance of your trading (WORK)
You became filled with violence within,
And you sinned;
Therefore I cast you as a profane thing
Out of the mountain of God;
And I destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the fiery stones.

[17] “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor;
I cast you to the ground,
I laid you before kings,
That they might gaze at you.

[18] “You defiled your sanctuaries
By the multitude of your iniquities,
By the iniquity of your trading;
Therefore I brought fire from your midst;
It devoured you,
And I turned you to ashes upon the earth
In the sight of all who saw you.
[19] All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you;
You have become a horror,
And shall be no more forever.”

Satan was originally the most beautiful angel, and many preachers say he was the worship leader in heaven. But pride entered his heart, and he wanted to be greater than God.

This reminds us of people today who think of themselves as greater than the Creator. Many mock and many even arrogantly deny His existence.

He used deceptive tactics to undermine the goodness of God. He tricked Adam and Eve into thinking God was holding out on them.

1. He is a deceiver

What does deceive mean?

To cause you to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.

To make someone believe something that is not true.

Let’s read of the first encounter that man had with satan, once he was cast down to earth.

Genesis 3:1-5 [1] Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

[2] And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; [3] but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

[4] Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. [5] For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Satan questioned God’s Word and challenged Eve by saying what God said is NOT true. In the same manner, he will challenge you and tell you that God’s Word is not true.

He will get you to doubt God’s goodness towards you.

He will whisper his thoughts into your mind and wait for you to make them your thoughts. And when you agree with him, they now become your thoughts.

Have you ever doubted God’s goodness towards you?

He deceives you by saying to you that:

- God is going to let you down, so you need to fight for yourself

- God is not going to back you up

- God brings sickness into the world
- You will never find the right person if you wait for God’s timing or His way of doing things, so you should compromise a little and it will all work out

- God was confused when He created you – He gave you the wrong identity

- God’s promises aren’t true for you – he gets you to question God’s Word and not trust Him

You see, if you believe these lies of the enemy and believe God is NOT good, then you DON’T trust God and you cannot walk in the full authority that He has called you to.

The truth is that God IS good, He IS backing you up, and He HAS given you authority.

1. Choose to believe God’s Word above all else and submit to Him.

2. Resist the devil.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Job 22:28 You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways.

How? You say: “Satan I rebuke you, in Jesus name. I believe God’s Word over my life. The blood of Jesus is against you. I plead the blood of Jesus over this situation.”

If you have distrusted God’s goodness and His promises over your life or you have been deceived by the devil, I would like to invite you to a place where you say I will believe Your Word, Lord, and I believe You are a good God. I want to walk in Your truth and in authority as You have called me to.

Satan has had thousands of years practicing the art of temptation on mankind.

What is temptation? Temptation is when you are lured or enticed to do something you know you shouldn’t do or something contrary to the Word of God.

Satan knows your weak points, and he will focus on them. Everyone is tempted differently. What is a huge temptation for some won’t even touch others.

Merriam Webster definition of temptation is - lure, entice, inveigle, decoy, tempt, seduce mean to lead astray from one's true course.

lure implies a drawing into danger, evil, or difficulty through attracting and deceiving. lured naive investors with get-rich-quick schemes

entice suggests drawing by artful or adroit means.

inveigle implies enticing by cajoling or flattering.

decoy implies a luring into entrapment by artifice. attempting to decoy the enemy into an ambush

tempt implies the presenting of an attraction so strong that it overcomes the restraints of conscience or better judgment.

seduce implies a leading astray by persuasion or false promises.

A few areas of basic temptation:
1. Money
2. Sex
3. Power
4. Fame
5. Pride
6. Jealousy

Jesus was tempted

Luke 4:1-13 [1]Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, [2] being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

[3] And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

[4] But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”

[5]Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. [6] And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. [7] Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

[8] And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

[9] Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. [10] For it is written:

‘He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you,’

[11] and,

‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”

[12] And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

[13] Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.

Part of your spiritual authority is to use the Word of God against the devil when he tempts you.

In John 10:10, Jesus said that satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.

He does this through crimes, violence, war, famine, sickness and disease, accidents, and every evil vice.

Mark 4:35-41 [35] On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” [36] Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. [37] And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. [38] But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

[39] Then He arose and rebuked the wind (WHO DO YOU THINK SENT THE WINDS TO DROWN THEM?), and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. [40] But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” [41] And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

Mark 5:1-5 [1] Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. [2] And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, [3] who had his dwelling among the tombs (IF HE LIVED BY THE TOMBS, AND HE WAS POSSESED WITH A LEGION OF DEMONS, THEN WHO TOLD HIM JESUS HAD JUST ARRIVED BY THE SEASHORE OR HARBOR?); and no one could bind him, not even with chains, [4] because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. [5] And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

Jesus used His authority to rebuke the devil and the attacks on His life.

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

You see, when satan was cast out of Heaven, he took with him a great number of angels, some say up to a third. These once glorious angels were deceived by satan into joining his grand rebellion. They were cast down to Earth and now operate as evil demons.

Satan has rank and structure in his demonic army and kingdom. His demons rule over territories, cities, towns, villages, and nations.

These spiritual demons cause havoc in peoples lives and society. They attempt to break up families with fighting and infidelity. The cause children to be rude and rebellious. They fuel sexual immorality, drunkenness, violence, crimes, and wars.

That’s why prayer and intercession are so powerful in coming against these demonic plans and strategies.

SO what to do

Ephesians 6:13-18

[13] Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

[14] Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, [15] and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [16] above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; [18] praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit (tongues, your heavenly language), being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

Luke 10:18-20 [18] And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. [19] Behold, I give you the authority (SO WE HAVE IT AS JESUS GAVE IT) to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. [20] Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Authority of the Believer by Pastor Jarrod Davidoff - May 19, 2019

I would like for us to do a study of the believer’s spiritual authority.

This encompasses what our rights are as His children and believers in Jesus.

In order to achieve this, we must learn about what authority is, how great our God is, and who we are in Christ.

First things first, let’s look at the meaning of authority.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary Definition of authority

1. How Great is God

I want us to spend some time considering and meditating on how great God is.

Do you ever just sit and contemplate the greatness of God?

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created

How powerful is God? I mean, ask yourself. When was the last time you created a planet? How did that go?

Job 38:1-41

[1] Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

[2] “Who is this who darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
[3] Now prepare yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

[4] “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.
[5] Who determined its measurements?
Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
[6] To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
[7] When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

[8] “Or who shut in the sea with doors,
When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
[9] When I made the clouds its garment,
And thick darkness its swaddling band;
[10] When I fixed My limit for it,
And set bars and doors;
[11] When I said,
‘This far you may come, but no farther,
And here your proud waves must stop!’

[12] “Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
And caused the dawn to know its place,
[13] That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,
And the wicked be shaken out of it?
[14] It takes on form like clay under a seal,
And stands out like a garment.
[15] From the wicked their light is withheld,
And the upraised arm is broken.

[16] “Have you entered the springs of the sea?
Or have you walked in search of the depths?
[17] Have the gates of death been revealed to you?
Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?
[18] Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth?
Tell Me, if you know all this.

[19] “Where is the way to the dwelling of light?
And darkness, where is its place,
[20] That you may take it to its territory,
That you may know the paths to its home?
[21] Do you know it, because you were born then,
Or because the number of your days is great?

[22] “Have you entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail,
[23] Which I have reserved for the time of trouble,
For the day of battle and war?
[24] By what way is light diffused,
Or the east wind scattered over the earth?

[25] “Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water,
Or a path for the thunderbolt,
[26] To cause it to rain on a land where there is no one,
A wilderness in which there is no man;
[27] To satisfy the desolate waste,
And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass?
[28] Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
[29] From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth?
[30] The waters harden like stone,
And the surface of the deep is frozen.

[31] “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades,
Or loose the belt of Orion?
[32] Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season?
Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs?
[33] Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?
Can you set their dominion over the earth?

[34] “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
That an abundance of water may cover you?
[35] Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, ‘Here we are!’?
[36] Who has put wisdom in the mind?
Or who has given understanding to the heart?
[37] Who can number the clouds by wisdom?
Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,
[38] When the dust hardens in clumps,
And the clods cling together?

[39] “Can you hunt the prey for the lion,
Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
[40] When they crouch in their dens,
Or lurk in their lairs to lie in wait?
[41] Who provides food for the raven,
When its young ones cry to God,
And wander about for lack of food?

JOB 39:1-30

[1] “Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young?
Or can you mark when the deer gives birth?
[2] Can you number the months that they fulfill?
Or do you know the time when they bear young?
[3] They bow down,
They bring forth their young,
They deliver their offspring.
[4] Their young ones are healthy,
They grow strong with grain;
They depart and do not return to them.

[5] “Who set the wild donkey free?
Who loosed the bonds of the onager,
[6] Whose home I have made the wilderness,
And the barren land his dwelling?
[7] He scorns the tumult of the city;
He does not heed the shouts of the driver.
[8] The range of the mountains is his pasture,
And he searches after every green thing.

[9] “Will the wild ox be willing to serve you?
Will he bed by your manger?
[10] Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with ropes?
Or will he plow the valleys behind you?
[11] Will you trust him because his strength is great?
Or will you leave your labor to him?
[12] Will you trust him to bring home your grain,
And gather it to your threshing floor?

[13] “The wings of the ostrich wave proudly,
But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s?
[14] For she leaves her eggs on the ground,
And warms them in the dust;
[15] She forgets that a foot may crush them,
Or that a wild beast may break them.
[16] She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers;
Her labor is in vain, without concern,
[17] Because God deprived her of wisdom,
And did not endow her with understanding.
[18] When she lifts herself on high,
She scorns the horse and its rider.

[19] “Have you given the horse strength?
Have you clothed his neck with thunder?
[20] Can you frighten him like a locust?
His majestic snorting strikes terror.
[21] He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength;
He gallops into the clash of arms.
[22] He mocks at fear, and is not frightened;
Nor does he turn back from the sword.
[23] The quiver rattles against him,
The glittering spear and javelin.
[24] He devours the distance with fierceness and rage;
Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.
[25] At the blast of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha!’
He smells the battle from afar,
The thunder of captains and shouting.

[26] “Does the hawk fly by your wisdom,
And spread its wings toward the south?
[27] Does the eagle mount up at your command,
And make its nest on high?
[28] On the rock it dwells and resides,
On the crag of the rock and the stronghold.
[29] From there it spies out the prey;
Its eyes observe from afar.
[30] Its young ones suck up blood;
And where the slain are, there it is.

JOB 40:1-2

[1] Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said:

[2] “Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?
He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

In order to have confidence in someone, you need to know their abilities and capabilities.

When you start a new business, and you build a team, and especially when you pay your staff, their abilities must be tried and tested.

When you build a sports team, the various players must be tried and tested.

THE ULTIMATE PROVIDER -spirit, soul and body

Ephesians 1:15-23

[15] Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, [16] do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: [17] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, [18] the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, [19] and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power [20] which He worked in Christ (JESUS) when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, [21] far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. [22] And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, [23] which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

2. Who we are in Christ

So once we have the revelation of how great God is and that He is the source, then it’s easy for us to have the revelation of who we are IN CHRIST.

Ephesians 1:15-22
[15] Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, [16] do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: [17] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him (THE GREAT GOD WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT), [18] the eyes of your understanding (SPIRITUAL EYES), being enlightened (COME TO THE REALIZATION OF); that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints (YOU HAVE A SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE – JESUS DIES, YOU INHERITED), [19] and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe (IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE, YOU WON’T HAVE POWER DIRECTED TO YOU. Faith comes by hearing), according to the working of His mighty power [20] which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, [21] far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. [22] And He put all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, [23] which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 2:6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus

Luke 10:18-19

[18] And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. [19] Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
